A Traveler's Impression of the States

No.1 - Seeing things you've never thought of seeing
More often that not, the culture of Singapore has been largely influenced by the States due to the influences of media. However, I've always had the impression that the eras of Elvis Presley or the American cowboys are things of the past. I guess I might be wrong.. you get little surprises sometimes ((:

The photo above is captured in Groveland, a small self-reliant town at the outskirts of California. Much of 50's or 60's are preserved as it is largely a retirement vicinity.

No.2 - Cars just move at a seemingly different pace
As soon as I hit the freeway (known as expressway in Singapore), my speedometer needle naturally passes the 100kmh mark. I wouldn't be surprise if I'm issued a ticket for driving any slower! (In fact, my roommate, who just received his licence then, was warned by the highway patrol for causing congestion because he's driving at 60kmh!)

No.3 - High-rise ain't everywhere; mountains are
A fact that took me a long, long while to accept is that most buildings are less than two-storey tall. This includes many major cities and towns.

When I first visited Stanford Shopping Center, I've imagined it to be a large building complex carrying renowned labels such as Tiffany & Co and Coach. Well, although the labels stay true, Stanford Shopping Center turns out to be a large acre of land filled with many one-storey store outlets. This is a far cry from Singapore, where we can find 25-storey HDB flats even in the suburbs!

No.4 - Ducks seem to be everywhere, but I don't see them on the menu!
Just an observation.. perhaps we don't bear to eat what we see everyday? :P
This photo is taken right outside my office. From my understanding, these ducks follow a strict regiment in their 'evening strolls' at the car park ((:

A photo of an 'antique' car taken outside my apartment. Apparently many Americans are still driving cars like this (:

I was wondering why are there miniature portion for Coca-Cola? Shouldn't everything be jolly up-sized?

The Reminiscence of an Undergraduate Life

This blog was started in summer 2007 when I was a freshman at the National University of Singapore.

It was started because of a bet placed between myself and three of my closest friends whom I've known for 15 years. It was a commitment to stay connected no matter where we are and what we are doing. It was also a pledge that we have duly fulfilled to date, unfortunately not through the electronic means of a blog.

Looking back, undergraduate life has consumed me at an unprecedented pace as our friendship grew over the years. I might not have imagined that I'm now two months shy from graduation, but well... here I am! Before this, I hope to conceive a blog which paints a pensive reminiscence of my undergraduate life, notably topics on travel, photography, technology and philanthropy -- the awes that never fail to wonder me.

I hope you'll enjoy reading as much as I enjoy reminiscing over the faint, sweet memories of my life. Cheers! (:
